United nations world water day

22 March 2023

Each year Smart Water run a World Water Day activity and competition for schools. There is still time to Register as you can do your activity any time it suits, but competition entries close 4pm Monday 3rd April.  Registrations are limited so get in quick!

World Water Day is celebrated across the globe every year on 22 March. It’s all about appreciating water, learning more about it and reminding us that water is an important resource for us all, especially in summer.

The theme for the United Nations World Water Day 2023 is “Accelerating Change”. Globally we are well off track from meeting the commitments under the UN Sustainable Development Goal 6: Water and Sanitation for all by 2030.

This year to celebrate UN World Water Day we have a lesson plan for you to explore global water use. Your class will audit water use at school and investigate how  water can be saved.  Students will also make a class pledge to use less water using a pledge board provided by Smart Water.

To enter the competition, you must take a photo of your pledge board with your class and send it to us at Smart Water.

This year is about asking everyone to make and submit a commitment which you can also add to the larger scale commitments from governments and organisations etc on the Water Action Agenda for UN World Water Day 2023.

It’s time to appreciate water, learn more about it and be reminded that water is a precious resource for all of us to use and enjoy.

How will you be a Water Smart legend in 2023?
To celebrate UN World Water Day we’re encouraging everyone to make a commitment to do one thing to save water.  This could be as a class or individually at home.
